OCIP a flashback in time

the first pic is us building
the second is the house fly, christine and i lived in
the fianl pic is the teaching in tung luang primary sch.
it was finally the day of the long awaited departure from singapore to thailand, their destination. the 7th of december 2005 was always in her head since the date of their flight was confirm. at the airport, she was so delighted to see her fellow classmates sending the whole team off.. it was such a touching sight to know that they care.after several exhausting flights, they finally reached the chiangrai airport. thinking it must be 7 deg outside, she put on 2 jackets in the plane. whoever, taking a step out of the airport told her otherwise. they got into 2 blue trucks which they were told were called "song tels" they were then transported to the MAG or mirror art group where they would spend the nite. the place was really nice and cosy. and there were so many plasticy orange fruits. she got her nickname as the "peeler" jus bcos she could peel them realy fast. she wonders how more lame can her team get.the next day or they were brought to the school, tung luang primary school. the sight of the super adorable kids lighted up her face. they spent some time getting their bots and gloves at a shop and walked back looking like asians bob the builders.. it was a cute sight.a task was thrown to the group unexpectedly, that was to teach the pri6 class that day. knowing that they all were unprepared to teach the pri6 and had zero teaching materials with them, a few of them, namely herself, von, gay n yang got together to brainstorm on what they can do in the classroom. the planning with the teachers was extremely difficult as everyone had trouble cmprehening the teachers who did not speak english. oh, what a headache. but they took up the challenge anyway.entering the classroom to teach for the first time, they were all feeling awkward and a little nervous. the kids introduced themselves one by one and the "teachers" later also followed suit, as they could not know of what else to say. she took out a paper which von scribbled on jus minutes b4 the lesson and said in a projected vioce "sabaideemai is How Are You?". to everyone's shock and astonishement, the kids said in unison "i'm fine thank you, how about u?"ok, they then know that their task was actually much more challenging as the kids know too much. the rest of the time was spent teaching them simple songs like"If you're happy and u know it" and also playing some silly game that gay thot of. (sorry gay) the highlight was howver, the touching moment when they were abt to leave the room and the kids sang to them "You are my sunshine". humourously (if there's such a word), they all sang "you are my San chye". and guess who was at the door listening with a bashful look? needless to say, it was their CT teacher.that was part of the teaching part. now, moving on to the construction...the pattern was that the first person digs the sand and fill up pails wile the rest just stand in a line passing the pails till it reaches the last person who dumps the sand on the ground and someone else brings the pails back to the first person. this, is my limited economics knowledge does not fail me, is known as specialisation of labour :) we did this for i tink, about 7 days.. the pattern is changed to transferring stones and cement which we had to make painstakingly ourselves.. the building process must be elebratorated by others as i taught everyday so u can say i did not build much. but hey, i did my share too okay.the village, baan sukasem..........
this is an awesome village.. the house which me, fly and christine(an adult volunteer) lived in has a x,mas tree outside.. haha. its made of bamboo... and when we step on it, it sinks. initally, we were quit afraid of walking abt too much with the fear of the whole house collasping. haha.. we ate rice for every meal. so my hope of going there to lose weight has vanished like a soap bubble.. there were chickens, dogs and yes, cats (haha.. jieying) running abt outside our house.. and they someimes come into our homes.. the villagers are wonderful ppl./ extremely courteous and hospitable.. they cooked meals for us and brought us to places too... let the rest eleborate more.. i;m kind of tired.. but all in all it was a great trip....jo-N (ah mee)
